Video upconversion on Denon 2307 not working

I just replaced my sony receiver with a new Denon 2307CI. One of the benefits of going with this approach is the single video cable (HDMI) between my receiver and the TV; it was supposed to upconvert my DVD video (component) and VCR (S-video). None of this upconversion appears to be working, however. When I select either of these components, the TV screen goes black and a message stating "mode not supported" comes up. This is a relatively late model sammy DLP: HLR5067W. Is this an HDCP-related issue, or have I just not set up the receiver properly. I can't even see the on-screen setup menus - I get the same message.

I think I solved my own problem. The samsung DLP display is incapable of displaying 480i video over the HDMI input. I got the up conversion working for the DVD player by making sure that the output was set to 480p. My setup won't work for the VCR or for the receiver setup menus because these are in 480i. I needed to add an S-Video cable form the receiver to the TV in order to get full functionality.

When I replace my display in a couple of years, I will have to make sure that I get a display capable of supporting 480i over HDMI.
