Re: yamaha htr 5990 problem
One thing I like to do is run a test tone within the set up menu. If the sound of the center speaker is not the same as the rest, you may need to turn the volume up on the center channel. The test tone also allows you to be sure the rest of your speakers are hooked up properly and calibrated to the volume you want.
Hooking another speaker up to it is the first thing you should do. This may eliminate all other options. Also, you have to remember that your center channel speaker will perform differently based on your sound settings (Surround Enhanced, Music, Movie, 7 Channel Stereo, etc...) and weather you are running a digital or analog signal through it. I know there are so many options, keep trouble shooting. My advice is don't automatically assume its the reciever because that is a pretty intense reciever with a lot of options so make sure you check them all out first.
