Receiver advice

Hi all,

I was needing a little advice on one of the following receivers that I have noticed, and whether they would be powerful enough to drive a sound system from Axiom such as M80s, VP150, EP500, QSR8's.

Pioneer VSX-816x
Pioneer VSX-516-K
Sony STR-DG600
Yamaha HTR-5930SL

I've heard the Sony receivers aren't really the greatest unless they are from the ES series.

In addition, I'd like something that falls below $300, which has ipod compatibility, 7.1 support and can drive the system above. Any other receivers that aren't listed that you think would be a good fit I'd love to hear about.

I would love to have Denon receiver, but that's not in the budget right now.

Re: Receiver advice

Hi Ethan

If I'm not mistaken the EP500 is a very good subwoofer?

With a sub and using the SMALL speaker setting on your receiver, you don't really need a ton of power. Depending on your need for full compatibility with HDMI, I would save up another $150 and get a Pioneer 1016. Over the long haul it is worth it with a good system like you have. However, if you must keep your budget under $300, I have recommended the 816 frequently.

Happy New Year

Re: Receiver advice

With those speakers I too would reccomend a slight step up in the receiver. If you need HDMI then the Pioneer 1016TX is a good choice, but remember its HDMI is video only, you'll still need a digital audio and/or 6ch analog audio connection. If you need HDMI w/ audio support give the Onkyo SR604 a look.
