I'm looking for a receiver in the $500.00 range need opinions
on three receivers.

Pioneer VSX-1016 TXV
Yamaha RX-V659
Marantz SR 4001

Will be used for watching TV & Movies very little music.

Will be using Onix- X series or SVS-SBS-01 Speakers & maybe Boston Acoustic bookshelf . Will be looking for opinions on these three speakers on the speaker forum.

I like the 1016, however it does not pass the audio portion of the signal through HDMI, otherwise a great deal @ $399 delivered from Amazon.com

Hi Gene;
Out of the three receivers you've listed, the Yamaha RX-V659 would be the best option for movie soundtracks and TV usage IMO. Audioholics has a pretty solid write-up on this receiver here.

I grabbed one for my bedroom and after having it for the past month, it's quite a nice receiver for the money. Way overkill for what I'm using it for, but I was impressed enough with a Yamaha RX-V2500 that I thought I'd give it a shot and I'm quite pleased w/it... -TD

Another vote for the Yamaha-I have the HTR 5960(big brother/little brother to the 659) and I am impressed with the features and sound.
