Re: Denon Receivers with HDMI 1.3 - Expectations
Um, "upgrading" from a McIntosh-anything to a Denon receiver doesn't quite sound right.........

You are right it doesn't sound right, no pun intended but the Mac just does not get me any flexibility with the new audio codecs or inputs for HD DVD or BD as well as my Denon DVD player. What am I suppose to do? I am thinking about getting the DVDO VP 30 for video switching and see if this helps out. I do have to admit the AQ with the new codecs is not a whole lot better than plan old Dolby Digital and DTS.
We will see. I do love the sound of my Mac. I just wish I would have bought the MX 135 instead.

Re: Denon Receivers with HDMI 1.3 - Expectations
I guess I got a little emotional because while I read your entire message including the switching problems, I got stuck on the Mac vs. Denon issue.
But yea, if you have three multichanel sources and the Mac only has one AND since even 2-input multichannel switchers seem to be extremely difficult to find, I guess the Denon is the better choice in this scenario.
BTW: why not the AVR-4XXX series? The 5XXX seems like its claim to fame is just another set of amps for another room......or does it include some other fundamental feature(s) that make it worth its price?

Re: Denon Receivers with HDMI 1.3 - Expectations
I'm hoping that Denon will offer an upgrade like they did for the 4806/5805 to 1080p upsampling. Can't see the upgrade being more than a HDMI board replacement and firmware upgrade to the processors. Pretty sure there's enough processing power in the 3 Aureus processors to handle the new codecs.

Re: Denon Receivers with HDMI 1.3 - Expectations
Not only does the Denon have two external inputs but it also has 5 HDMI inputs as well as the Denon Link which will pass SACD and DVD Audio which I have a number of disc in. That is why I am looking at the new Denon 5805 or if they call it the 5807 to handle Blu-Ray, HD DVD, X-Box 360, Denon 3910
HD/Tivo Receiver, etc. I can get a digital connection for all these players which will also pass the new audio codecs.
The new Denon will be the way I go unless Mac comes out with an HDMI receiver.

Re: Denon Receivers with HDMI 1.3 - Expectations
Hi Ted
I just picked up a mint condition Denon 5803A that is all I need for the foreseeable future. Good luck with the new Denons. The 5803A has 2 sets of 8 channel inputs that should take care of the new codecs. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Happy New Year

Re: Denon Receivers with HDMI 1.3 - Expectations
Recently I have looked at the Denon line, and even with the HDMI 1.3 I will not buy from Denon any more. The reason I don't like Denon is its receiver layout for input/output of a/v. I currently own an old AVR-3300 Denon, and even though it does not offer me a lot of flexibility any more, at least the back of my receiver has a more user-friendlier input/output layout than the current line of Denons.
Next upgrade I will go with the Elite Pioneer line of receivers.

Looking at the diagrams off the 4306/3806/2807 the layout is fairly similar too that off the 3300(speaker output bottom right, input/output up and down left side) The top off the line 4806/5805 offer what I think is the best layout I've seen in a receiver, especially with the speaker cable connections on either side and input/outputs in the middle.

Re: Denon Receivers with HDMI 1.3 - Expectations
where did you read/hear/etc. this announcement? i went on usa.denon.com and didn't see such announcements. if so, when is the ETA? these AVR's just can't come soon enough. it's time for a AVR to just handle all of the HDMI devices we have from upscale SD/HD players, dish, cable, HTPC's and so on. it's just about time!!!!
plus, SACD&DVDA AND TrueHD AND DTS Master is just too cool. gotta have it... NOW!
to the edge of eternity and depth of infinity, stupidity knows no bound.
