Stereo Amp Recommendation ~$200

My parents want me to buy them a good stereo amp for 100% music listening and have around a $200 budget. I know this is a pretty small budget, but I was thinking bang-for-your-buck stuff (NAD, perhaps?). Anybody have any thoughts?

Are you willing to buy used?

Re: Stereo Amp Recommendation ~$200

Used NAD would definitely be a good choice.

Do they need an FM tuner? If so, a stereo receiver migh be a better choice and your price range should be in the right ballpark for most.

If they don't need an FM tuner, an integrated amp will easily be a better choice. New, will be tough to swing one in that price range though, so you would be looking used most likely.

Used doesn't bother me in the least. That's a good point about the FM tuner. They'll definitely need one.

How about a refurbed HK 3480 from their direct store or their ebay auctions?

Re: Stereo Amp Recommendation ~$200

Are you looking strictly for an amp or an amp combination? If strictly an amp, how about a Behringer A500. It is a two-channel amplifier, but does not have a tuner, etc. I got mine shipped for $200. Plugs into my Yamaha avr receiver's pre-outs.

Re: Stereo Amp Recommendation ~$200

I wouldn't buy pro-amps for my parents tho.

I second the NAD receiver .. something like an L40 or something

If you are just looking for an amp, have you looked at B&K? Used B&K amps with 105-140 amps per channel that will drive any speaker are available at your price. They sound excellent and are very dependable.

.
If its just an amplifier: Pioneer's A-35R Integrated

If its an 'all in one': Pioneer XV-DV440-DVD-CD-Receiver

Given that your parents want a tuner, you should check out Onkyo's refurbished stereo receivers at www.shoponkyo.com. Excellent performers with AM/FM tuner, phono pre-amp (for play vinyl records) and remote. Has 1 year factory warranty as well.
