I have an older Harman Kardon avr-75 and am looking to upgrade. Here are the h/k specs. I know there's not a ton of info there, but couldn't find any other specs.

I'm looking at an openbox Yamaha RX-V2500 for $650 with full manufacturer's warranty. Good deal? How will it sound compared to the 75? I'd buy it and side-by-side them myself, but the avr-75 is currently six hours away while I am out of state.

And I assume the Yamaha would be a better value than a $430 Denon 1906?

There have been many advancements in AVRs since 97/98. So yes, you would undoubtedly an appreciable difference between your old H/K and a Yamaha RX-V2500 in both sound quality and features.

Between the Yamaha and the Denon, you're really comparing apples to oranges, being that the Yamaha is about two price classes up if you factor in original MSRP. If you can get an RX-V2500 for $650, I'd say jump on it while you can.
