Is my receiver behind times?

I have a n Onkyo receiver that used to be a monster in the past. It is a TX-DS939. My question is I just bought sony's upconverting dvd player dvp-ns75h. And I read reviews on the dvd player where you can change the frequency audio output to send 96hz to the receiver instead of 48hz. And I heard that makes an incredible difference. Can somebody please tell me if I should sell my Onkyo receiver and get one that is up to today's times. Or will this one still do the job. I have a pretty nice home theater in my opionon and I just want the best sound I can get. If I should buy another receiver what receiver will do the job this dvd player can throw at it? Without breaking the bank. Cause If I have to I'll use the money for my Onkyo and get another one. And one more question this dvd player has something about dts decoder. Can my receiver handle that? I looked in the manual but didn't find what I was looking for. Thank you

I don't have personal experience with 96K, however, I've not heard anyone talking about something as simple as that making an "incredible" difference.

So, the answer to your question is, no, don't sell your receiver. Wait till the High Def DVD war is over, and if either format survives, then get a high def DVD player because there are new audio formats that will make a clear difference. The dust should be settled in about a year, at which time you should also be able to get a receiver with HDMI 1.3.

Rest easy .

No, it won't make an "incredible" difference, but yes, your receiver is a bit behind the times. The only major thing you might be missing right now is 6.1/7.1 processing, but that is not such a huge deal. IMO, what you have right now should do fine.
