Pioneer VSX-1016TXV vs. Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV
What really is the difference between these two receivers other than Elite or not. They have virtually the same features and power, what gives.

Re: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV vs. Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV
I don't have time to make a thorough comparison, but it looks like the Elite may have more inputs/outputs, Windows Media Audio 9-Pro, and a 2 year warranty among other things.

I don't think I would want to pay $200 for not so much extra. The 1016 has plenty of features and inputs IMO.

Usually, the Elite has better quality build components. But whether it is worth the extra is all up to you.

Re: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV vs. Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV
etronics has the Elite for $470. A 5 year warranty is $70. So, $140 more than the 1016, with a 5 year warranty rather than a 1 year warranty.

That could deffinetly make a world of difference as well as Higher quality components. I just noted they looked almost exactly the same and had similar features.

The cushy warranty is worthless if the product is bought from an unauthorized dealer.

Jeremy
etronics has been around for a long time, and so has Phillips warranty service. Do you have any experience, or know anyone who has bought from etronics, bought the Phillips warranty, and then could not get service from Phillips?
etronics would get the sh** kicked out of them if that was the case.

Re: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV vs. Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV
Here's the warranty
and here are etronic's terms
note the following:
Quote:
Manufacturer Warranties
Each product sold on this site is packaged with applicable manufacturer's warranty and service information detailing specific terms and conditions. We encourage you to complete the product registration information and return any registration cards to the manufacturer so that they can contact you if necessary in the future. While Etronics sells only new and unused product, Etronics is not an authorized reseller of certain of the products listed for sale on this site. To be an authorized reseller, manufacturers may require that Etronics abide by manufacturer’s suggested and minimum selling prices* . Etronics would be unable to provide you with the low cost of the products sold on this site if Etronics were to comply with certain manufacturer’s suggested and minimum selling prices. In those instances where Etronics is not an authorized reseller of the products sold, these manufacturers may decline to offer the manufacturers warranties that usually accompany the product being purchased. These products may be purchased directly from the manufacturers with such manufacturer’s warranties but may not be offered by such manufacturers at the deeply discounted prices offered by Etronics. In such instances where a manufacturer’s warranty may not be available, we make every effort to provide you with such information prior to your completing your purchase. Etronics cannot be responsible for the decision of a manufacturer not to offer or abide by such warranties.
*For example, Etronics does not adhere to Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon or Acoustic Research internet and MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) pricing policies. Accordingly, Etronics is not authorized by such retailers to sell their products via the internet and cannot offer the manufacturers warranties that usually accompany these products. Etronics does, however, continue to offer to its customers new Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon and Acoustic Research products at heavily discounted prices.

Since there seem to be few concrete advantages to buying this particular Elite receiver over its more pedestrian sibling other than the warranty, it's highly relevant. Also, there have been reports on this forum of 1014s dying at young age...
