The Marantz receivers from the mid/late 70's were nice. Especially the more expensive ones. I thought they sounded more "highend" than some of the others. I never heard the Sansui receivers. However, I ended up buying a Pioneer SX1050. It was second from the top in the Pioneer line. I liked the sound, but thought it was a slight step down from the Marantz. As far as a small detailed description in sound, hey that was 30 years ago. I had the Pioneer for about 3 months, sold it and bought the Pioneer Spec-1 pre amp and Spec-4 power amp. If I was in the market for a vintage receiver I would look for the big ol' Marantz 2500. That's just me. The bigger Sansui receivers do look cool though.
