Alright, I have a VSX-D814-K. It's only about a year old, but the sound is lacking. You have to crank the thing up to -20 to get any kind of real sound out. And at that level my Wharfedales hiss. So I grabbed my buddy's old STR-D550Z. Hooked it up to hear one hell of a difference. So I am thinking maybe something is wrong with the Pioneer. I can't say I really know. I am considering a Refurb AVR 225-Z as a replacement. Thoughts? This is just a basic 5.1 setup in my bedroom. Nothing fancy, just want some decent sound. The VSX is currently pushing 2 Valdus 500s and the Valdus Center. I'll add the 100s or a comparable Wharfedale down the line. Opinions?
