Last weekend I finally was able to set up my new Yamaha unit. It only sat in the box...on my floor for 2 months
Features: Pretty much your basic A/V Unit.
*Has XM tuner built in. I need to get this activated.
* 5.1 surround with zone2. I also need to get my zone 2 setup.
* Componant up conversion. I know the new feature comming out will be the HMDI up-conversion...but oh well! Has Two componant inputs.
* Rated 70w/channel x7 20-20.
* YAPO- bonus for some...I think.
Layout of the back pannel is very typical for Yamaha. No real changes here and I happen to like thier layout. Of course- to each thier own.
Music. I have only been able to listen to FM (I know...) stations so far. Very typical Yamaha sound. Very clean and detailed...and this was just FM. It Has plenty of power for my 17x15 bedroom and powered my Polk speakers just fine( I'll list those at the end). I ran the unit both stereo/stereo direct and 7channel. All sounded great to my ears. Funny, before I had my sub set up- I had some walls shaking, very much surprised me- Some think that Yammie's are thin in the bass reproduction area- and bright- working fine with my Polks.
Movies. This is the first time Ive had the chance to get componant connection to my Toshiba 46" DLP TV. Watched on Sat. Looney toons back in Action. I was over-joyed with what I saw. Picture was just so impressive. Blacks were black and deep...and I did not see any rainbows. I could not stop thinking to myself how good this picture looked!.
Surround sound was great as well. I have not had a chance to really set anything up- so its set as it was out of the box. I did change the center to phantom since I'm not using one. I ran just enhanced Dolby 5.1 and it did its Job! Really cool in the bedroom- exactly what I was hoping for.
anyway...I'll post more when I get the 2nd zone and the XM up and running- and of course- set the unit up properly- But out of the box...She's doing great!

Polk RT800i's Front/center
