HK 7300 or HK 635

An HK AVR 635 retails for about $1065, the HK AVR 7300 for around $2300. I have the opportunity to pick up a floor model 7300 for $999 w/factory warranty. Which would be the wiser purchase the new in the box 635 or the highly discounted "used" 7300?

FYI, I do not run video through my current HK AVR525 and do not intend to do so with the new unit.

You can probably find a better price on the 635 if you shop around. I recently picked one up from J&R Music World online for $699 with free shipping. That is for a brand new unit with full factory warranty.

$680 and free shipping from J&R for my 635.

Quirky little SOB, but sounds amazing, the crossover setup is perfect, and the auto EQ is great for getting levels and distances set.

Shoot. pretty awesome price on the 7300... I'd go for it...

Ever owned a flagship type piece of equipment? Go for the 7300.

The 635 has more advanced processing than the 7300. The 7300 is an older design. The only reason to get the 7300 is if you need another 25 watts per channel. Prices on HK are only going down. Frys has already had sales on the 7300 for $999 new. You can expect to see more of that in coming months.

Remember, there is always another sale right around the corner. You are tempted because of the price of the floor model. Not a good reason to buy an older model.

The differences from the flagship AVR7300 to the 635 are way more than 25 watts per channel and a sound mode or two.....

The 7300 is in a completely different class here.

When my HK 7200 couldn't be repaired, Fry's tried to give me a 635 and call it comparable equipment. After much debate (about 2 hours worth), I went home with a 7300. To me it's a no-brainer at the same price. Not sure what the previous poster meant in saying that the 7300 is an older model, but it looks the same as the 635, etc. He may well be correct and if so, I'd like more details for my own knowledge. The 7300 is BIG and it does run pretty hot, so check your diminsions before you buy...it needs space.

Heck, the 7300 is my dream receiver, go flagship. Earl is right, you'll need a big hole for it but it's top of the line and that's a no brainer to me.
