Onkyo TX-SV727 worth $250?

Right now I have no home theater system. My buddy is replacing his SV727 and wants $250.

I've looked thru some reviews and I'm not sure if this would be a good home theater reciever for me. It seems to be missing some of the newer features, like Dolby Digital.

He says he bought it in 98-99.

Would this be a decent reciever for me, or should I pass? Right now I'm leaning towards pass.

You should definately pass on this deal. Your buddy might have been able to talk somebody into paying $250 for his receiver five years ago but even that's a stretch. A brand new Onkyo Surround Sound Receiver (TX-SR502) can be found at Circuit City for $269.

The Onkyo SR502 is available at J&R for $229.00 (Black) shipped.

The upcoming SR503 will have more power and automatic calibration for MSRP of $300.00.

Gee... you americans are lucky, all those receivers I keep reading about on these forums are sooooo cheap down there!

Here in Canada, the best price I found for the Onkyo TX-SR502 is 500$ CAD, which is ~400$ USD.

:'(

Find a buddy in the US to buy it for you and ship it.

What I've been thinking about is one of those Onkyo packages that comes w/ the reciever and some inexpensive speakers. Then later I can upgrade the speakers...
