Yamaha receiver switching to DTS on analog input on its own

I am trying to solve a weird problem. I it a Yamaha HTR-5150 connected to a Mitsubishi WS-48413 tv using the audio out on the TV, the signal is being fed from a cable one of the coax inputs. Here is the weird part, if we flip through channels, on certain ones the receiver will flip into DTS and no sound will come out. We are using the IR command link would this have anything to do with it? The same channels work fine through the VCR using the other analog inputs. Any suggestions on how to resolve this, it has me baffled.

If by that you mean a digital coaxial input, you can’t send the TV’s audio jacks to one of those.

No we are using the standard rca jacks (red and white RCA's) Thats what has me puzzled, since there are no reasons why the receiver should switch to DTS since it requires a digital connection, not the standard RCA connection.
