Onkyo TX-SR502 questions.
I've recently acquired a new Onkyo SX-502 receiver, and have connected it to my iBook, via an M-Audio Sonica. It's quite an enjoyable setup, and seems to work fairly well, except for two annoying problems. First, though, a general question about upsampling.
I can set my mac to output a 24 bit/88.2 kHz signal (via the Audio MIDI setup program). The entirety of my iTunes collection was ripped from 16 bit/44.1 kHz sources, however. Is there any advantage to this upsampling?
The two problems are associated with operating my Onkyo in 88.2 kHz mode. First, the display merely shows "PCM Stereo" in this mode, not something more informative, such as "PCM fs: 96 kHz". This is merely annoying, but it could be indicative of a larger problem with my receiver, my spdif cable, or my sonica...
Second, I can't seem to get DTS:Neo modes to operate on 88.2 kHz inputs-- a clicking sound results. It works on analogue channels, as well as on 24,32, 44.1, and 48 KHz PCM streams. On 96 Khz streams, the receiver simply displays "PCM fs 96 KHz In", implying that the DSP can't process high frequency streams into surround sound.
(Oddly enough, the receiver is unable to display the frequency of 24 Khz streams. But this is merely of academic interest, for I don't intend to use this thing with "low fidelity audio.")
Can anyone with specific experience with the '502 comment?
