Opinion on these two receiver choices (budget)....

I was thinking of either getting the Sherwood RD-6105 for $88 shipped for my bedroom with Velodyne CHT speakers or getting the Onkyo TX-sr502 refurbished with one year waranty from Ecost for about $170 shipped. I could then use the Onlyo in my living room with my Athena speakers and move the Harman Kardon AVR-120 that's in the living room to the bedroom. I could even get the Onkyo and use it in the bedroom with the Velodynes. Or would the Sherwood be good enough for the bedoom (I don't need video switching) and keep the Harman mated with the Athena AS-B1's. Any thoughts would be helpful, including other ideas on receivers. Thanks

Jason

Here's a review on the Sherwood 6105.

For $88.00, I don't think you can go wrong with the Sherwood. The Onkyo will be better in terms of features, but is it really 2X as good in terms of performance? I doubt it.

Hmm, I like that Onkyo sound, so I have to give the nod to the Onkyo, but addmittedly I have never auditioned a Sherwood and probably never will, so my opinion between the two surely should not carry much merrit.

Nick, the review is from New Zealand. Still, US$88.00 for a brand-new 5.1 receiver is insane.

Fry's/Outpost.com was also selling Sherwood's 6108 for $88.00 last year. I purchased one and the machine was more than impressive. I returned it since I was concentrating on my 2 channel system.

I'm seriously considering the Sherwood since it's just for bedroom use only. I really like the sound of the Harman Kardon with my Athena's in the loving room and I feel like the Onkyo may not sound as nice with them if I got the Onkyo and moved the Harman to the bedroom. Also consider a Pioneer VSX-d812. I'd probably use it with the Athena's and move the Harman to the bedroom. That's another possibility.

You will not go wrong with the Sherwood RD-6105. It's a good basic receiver at an unbelievable price.

How is the audio quality for the Sherwood? Review says its better than his yamaha, which I feel are really good sounding amps...

I have a 3 year old Kenwood basic 5.1 reciever i want to upgrade, because ive been getting into MC music and running music at all channels, i can really hear the weakness of the amp section... the audio is all flat, undynamic and just lacking OOMPH...
