So in preparation for my Yamaha reciever to die due to being drenched with juice, I thought I would go for separates. I have a $3000 budget for both, and was wondering what the best combo for that cash would be.

I have a 5.1 Klipsch RF7, RC7, RS7, SVS 2231 set up. Keep in mind that I would like to have enough power in the bank to feed my next pair of power hungry speakers(Dynaudio), whenever I upgrade.

if you are starting out, then maybe used is a way to go. audiogon has a 5 channel b&k for $250. its 105 watts per channel.

Klipsch makes its own pre/pro/power amps under ARAGON.

I am very hesitant to go used, unless I can pick it up locally. I was thinking a 5 channel amp, and a processor with some component in and out capabilities. I was thinking about $1500 on each. What are some good amps and preamps in the sub 2k street price range?

I am not a "buy it used fan" either.

You have a lot of good choices for $3000.

Sherwood Newcastles P965 and A965 are good. The Pre-pro is getting great reviews.

Rotel 1068 and 1075

Adcom 860II and any of their amps

or

Any of Outlaws amps.

The B&K ref50 can be had for < 2000 and you can add an amp from Adcom or Outlaw

My dealer is selling new v3 Anthem AVM20's for $2000.
You might be able to find similar offers in your areas.

I know Cary has their pre-amp but it might be a litle closer to 3 by itself.

Don't be afraid to mix and match either.

ATI AT2505 250WX5 $1500 shipped from One.call:

http://ww2.onecall.com/PID_724.htm
One Call is a great internet seller.

Sherwood Newcastles P965, I bought mine from B&M for $1030 plus tax. Great unit.

Your total= about $2600, leaves you with $400 for some wires and a surge suppressor.

I second the Rotel suggestion. Recently picked up the RSP1068/RMB1075/RB1070 combo for $3200 tax included. It's 7.1 and you can use the 1070 power amp to run the fronts with the 1075 running the center and rears, and maybe some new side surrounds.
