I am just looking for some feedback regarding 3 brands for home theater/home audio.

Harman Kardon
Bose
Yahama

If you experts could help this newbie out with some pros/cons of the brands that you are familiar with, I would be very grateful.

thanks...

Nobody around here seems to think Bose is a good value, so you may want to seriously research them on the web before buying.
otherwise, I think its an error to buy based entirely on brand. Most every brand has good models, and not so good models. Buy a bad model of an otherwise good brand will be of little comfort. Determine a price range or better yet a requirements or needs list, and shop based on that.

Cheers.

Thank you much.

I haven't heard too much good news about Bose either....

Home Theater is Complicated.

I swear by Yamaha receivers, I've always had one (except for an unfortunate Sony brain-cramp a dozen years ago..)

HT is complicated, but the more your interest grows, the more you'll learn. Especially lurking around here, reading magazines, checking out stores all the time, stuff like that.

Have fun with it! Deciding what to buy is the best part!

Most people mix & match brands too. An all yamaha/sony/pioneer/marantz/denon system are rare (maybe only exist as showrooms ? ). The average person will use seperate brands for loudspeakers, subwoofer, player, monitor (or projector), reciever, and amps.

"Did you know that more people are murdered at 92 degrees Fahrenheit than any other temperature? I read an article once. Lower temperatures, people are easy-going, over 92 and it's too hot to move, but just 92, people get irritable."

Just throw a wrench in your equation, I love my Onkyo products, ie Receiver. If your looking for a good entry level receiver with room to grow, take a look at Onkyo.
