My local BB has them in now. Couldn't listen to it or tinker with it much, since it wasn't hooked up, just plugged into an outlet. I picked it up and moved it around a little, and I must say it seems very well built, alot heavier than my 811.

As I was looking at it a salesman comes up to me and asks if he can help me, I said no, just looking. He's like ok, are you looking to get into surround sound? I said nope, already got it. He goes, cool. Are ya looking to upgrade anything. I said not really. He's like, well if you are, this model here (1014) has a brand new feature that you can actually hook a microphone up to it and it automatically calibrates everything for you. I just said yup, I know that, and he walked away. I just had to laugh.

The remote isn't backlit but it seems logicly laid out to me. It learns well and has alot of preprogrammed codes. I use a Pronto for all my remote needs but I wouldn't have any problem using the 1014's remote for everything if need be.

Hopefully you don't have a Dolby Digital Expressvu or Dishnet Receiver that you want to use it with, because it doesn't work. I sent mine back for that reason. I got a Yamaha V2400 instead, more money, but alot more features including auto speaker setup. And it works perfectly with my satellite system.

The 1014TX has auto speaker setup just like the V2400. The 2400 has more channels of EQ but it's been known to introduce phase issues when doing room-eq. The ExpressVU/Bishnet incompatible is unfortunate.

Hey all, I've been lurking for a bit. I am just jumping into HT and have a budget of about $2500. I think I am going to go for one of these Pioneers 1014s. Best Buy has them in my area for $473

Now, I'm undecided on speakers. I was originally going to go for a 5 channel system.. do I need the center rear? My HT room is a living room kitchen area that is open and mounting a rear speaker might be a problem. Myt room is about 13 feet by 23 feet. with a cathedral ceiling.

Any suggestions for speakers in the under $2K range??

Thanks for any suggestions.

I get my HD through Time Warner, so the Dolby Digital Expressvu and Dishnet issues won't affect me.
