Hopefully we don't hear more horror stories about the 1014.
Just the fact that it wouldn't work with Express vu/Dishnet Dolby satellite receivers was enough to make me send mine back. I'm out quite a bit more for my V2400 yamy, but at least I know it's gonna keep on thumpin' for a few years.

Scott, I kept the 1014 and sold the H/K, because the 1014 sounded better to my ears. The 1014 is a steal (when it works).

Stephen, J & R's return policy is 14 days. I bought this six weeks ago. It's Pioneer's problem now. The service center was closed today, so i'm taking it in tomorrow.

just out of curiosity, all of you who just bought a 1014 recently, what date is on the back of yours? mine says aug'04.
trying to figure out if there's a batch that were manufactured around the same dates/month that have the same problem...

Hey guys! Picked mine up Friday at BB...they were on sale and I had a 12% off Coupon, got it for $417 and added a 4yr ext waranty. Have a question though!

I got my new VSX-1014 all connected Sunday, but have a problem with up-conversion or I don't understand it well enough.

I have two Component sources feeding into it (DVD player and the HD section of my Motorola 6200 STB. Have a 6412 PVR coming this week to replace the 6200) and they feed out through the Component Out into my 55" HD RPTV fine. Picture looks great.

But I was hoping to get the DTV (480i) feed from my Motorola 6200 to also up-convert to the Component Out so I can stop switching between the TV's AV modes depending on the source. I tried connecting it to several inputs both S-video (not sure if the box has S-Vid enabled) and Composite (I know it works) and nothing. I finally had to run a S-Vid line from the Monitor Out to the TV's AV-1 input so we could watch Non-HD channels. I also can't get it to share the digtal (Optical) audio that the HD side gets, had to run a line from the STB's Digital Coax line into the 1014 so the regular channels got sound.

Reading the manual I think it should upvert the signal no problem, but I sure couldn't get it too. So right now I have to switch both the TV and Receiver settings depending on if I'm watching HD/DVD or DTV.

Any ideas at what I'm doing wrong or am I assuming too much....

ps, I also could not get the On Screen Guide to work through the component. I had to run a S-Vid cable from Monitor out to the TV before I could see it.

Besides that it rocks! Love the sounds and features. The MCCAC was spot on too.

Yesterday, I had enough time to get over to Borders to read the Home Theater Magazine review of the 52TX Elite receiver. The review mentioned that it features DPL IIx Game settings in addition to movies and music. So, I find that I feel pretty good about this option because my Yamaha HTR-5760 had this feature and it would be good that the 54TX would have it, too, since I recently purchased a PS2.

Last evening, I was at home and wanted to play a little San Andreas. However, I could not locate the "game" option under DPL IIx. I then hit the .PDF version of the manual up this morning, and sure enough, it appears Pioneer has left this part of DPL IIx out of their 54TX receiver.

Apparently, the Game option of DPL IIx should provide a bit of a "fuller" sound when playing such games. I guess I'll have to go without on this - as long as I own the 54TX.

I don't understand why Pioneer would only implement "some" of the capabilities of DPL IIx, but leave out others such as the "game" option.
