Since nobody replied I'll give it a whirl.

Dude! These are both awesome receivers! Don't beat yourself up over the differences between these two, most people would LOVE to have to decide between them.

Both decode up to the extended surround formats, have 7.1 inputs (hi-res city) and seven discreet amplifiers built in. What more could you ask?

DSP pre-sets are garbage. THD, SN ratio are all irrelevant, after all we are talking about 21st century solid state electronics.

So it comes down to multiroom capability. If you want it, go for the 90. If you don't, save money on the 60.

You didn't mention power rating on the 90 but the 60's 110x7 is as good as Home Theater needs and the 90 doesn't likely have any appreciable difference.

But, like most consumers you want to know which one is "better". Personally I judge receivers worth the old fashioned way. I pit them against each other upon a scale and the one to tip the scale wins. Weigh them, the heavier one has a better build quality. 'nuff said

I agree!! I have the 5660 and I could not be happier. Althought I just got it two months ago not knowing that the 57's would be coming out.
The 5660 is 90x6 which is more then enough for my room, it also sounds very good. The dialogue is clear as well as much of the surrounds. I compared it to the Denon 1804 and was looking at some HK models overall it is at least as good as those. Yamaha has a good reputation in the home theater industry and should be a good choice for a reciever.

Have you had a chance to audition?

I gave up on tracking my collection and actually started watching what I have.
