~$900 for a receiver: Onkyo NR900?

A buddy of mine is looking. He can get a 900 for $900 (original list was $1500). I've done some quick looking and looks OK, except that it doesn't have DTS-ES (right?), or DPL IIx. But he likes the Net Tune feature.

Any other good or bad things about this guy? No fan?

There's the 801 now. And I mentioned Denon, H/K, Sony, Yamaha, etc., to him.

??

The NR900 does have DTS ES. Is he looking at a used NR900, as there's a newer model NR901? I don't believe either has a fan. I've owned an 919(7+yrs) and then 989ver2(<1yr)and had no problems. Although I have been seriously thinking about upgrading to separates though. You can check out some reviews on www.ecoustics.com and type in the model # for reviews.

I have the 901 and it definitely supports DTS-ES!

the 900 is basically the same model but last years model. Most of the stuff is pretty much the same. Minor changes were made on it. So far, this ia a worthy purchase! For 900 it's a good deal!

He actually found a 989 ver 2 for ... $1000. Demo model w/o the box and manual, but did have the remote. Good enough deal that I couldn't think of any reason he shouldn't get it, so he did.
