is this a good reciever?

the 601 has more power....

I think most users would be fine with the SR-501, amazing at that price, I installed 2 of them over the holidays.

Good power, great high end sound, great 6.1 software and processing modes. I even used the Component Video to switch HDTV and 480P DVD for one of them, worked great with no visable degredation.
