Mike, I don't own this receiver. However, if I were to recommend an Onkyo to someone - this would be the receiver. Since it has pre-outs, it would make a nice pre/pro if someone were to add an external amplifier to "beef up" the power output.

I have the TX-DS797B which is the year before. Could not be happier. I use tubes for the main 2 channels in stereo. Of course the wish list would be to go Conrad-Johnson for all 7 channels but that will have to wait for funding.
