How do you have it connected to the receiver? You must use mutli-channel analog or digital (optical or coaxial) to get Digital sound. You CANNOT get DTS, or Dolby Digital for that matter, via stereo analog. If you set the receiver to "Auto", put in a DVD, and it defaults to NEO:6 or PLII, you have something connected or setup incorrectly.

That's a big part of your problem. DTS Neo:6 isn't what you want. That format is designed for 2-channels sources. Think of it as DTS's version of DPL2.
What you want is DTS 5.1 (or just "DTS"). As suggested in previous posts, this requires a digital connection (coax or optical), proper configuration of your receiver's digital input, and enabling DTS output on the DVD player.
And of course you'll also need a disc with a DTS track.

alright, i got an optical cord going from my reciever to my dvd player, when i put dvd auto on instead of dvd dts, it turns of the dts symbol on the reciever and says DOLBY DIGITAL instead, now when a movie splaying it eliminates my pro logic options and neo 6 options to just DOLBY DIGITAL or enhanced, when i put it on DVD DTS after i put it on Neo 6: Cinema it will say DTS in big words, wont work, and i tried a couple of dvd's with DTS. The only way it will stay DTS is if i keep it on dvd dts but no sound comes out that way, the second i switch it to DVD auto, even though the DTS decoder is on and its on Neo 6 it dissappears right away and says DOLBY DIGITAL, there's a couple variations for one button, pro logic, pro logic 2 movie, pro logic 2 music, enhanced, neo 6: cinema and neo 6: music but before i go into neo 6 it flashes DTS before it shows the mode which gave me reason to believe that that was the mode i want it on for DTS. Is it humanly possible to doesnt want to work because i have 2 red and blues goin from the dvd player to the reciever so xbox will come out of my speakers?

Allen,
Page 37 of your manual says to set DTS decoder to YES (i.e your receiver has a decoder) - this will make the player output a DTS bitstream on the optical connexion.
It was probably set to NO when you bought it, and the onboard decoder was used, and that would put the audio out thru the 2ch analog, which would explain why you would see DTS: Neo on the receiver.

actually, your problem might me alot simpler than u think. when u start up the movie, it should start playing in dolby digital. in the menu screen (for the dvd - not the dvd player, and not the receiver), go to the sound options and change it to dts. once u do that, your receiver should automatically switch to dts.

I think what Jon means is the menu for the actual movie, not your player. Every DTS disc that I played has required me to set that up each time. Look for an audio option or something of that sort, on the DVD menu. And set the audio to DTS.
Hope that helps.

But you should have the manual that came with your player. Page 37 is explicit and straightforward:
Quote:
If your A/V receiver is equipped with a DTS decoder, your DVD-VCR can output DTS digital sound, but you MUST enable this feature in the menu system.
NOTE: Select “Yes” ONLY if you have connected a DTS-equipped A/V receiver to the Digital Output (optical or coaxial) on the DVD-VCR back panel.
1 Open “SETUP MENU”
Press the SETUP button.
2 Select “DVD Setup”
Using the up/down, move the selection arrow to “DVD Setup,” then push right to select.
3 Select “Language/Audio Setup”
Move the selection arrow to “Language/Audio Setup,” then push right to select.
4 Set “DTS Decoder”
Move the selection arrow to “DTS Decoder,” then push right to select from the following options:
• No - Indicates that your A/V receiver is NOT equipped with a DTS decoder.
• Yes – Indicates that your A/V receiver is equipped with a DTS decoder.

This is the setting that, in most other players, would have an option labeled "bitstream". Even if the problem isn't solved by fixing this setting, you must have it set correctly before you begin investigating other possible causes.
