Yamaha RXV-1400 vs. 2400

Is the only difference between these two an extra 10watts/channel from the 2400?? Is there anything else that makes the 2400 worth $100 more than the 1400?

Actually, the 2400 is $200 more than the 1400. Here are two links for you to go to where you can download the info about each receiver. I am considering both, but am leaning towards the 2400.

There are a few minor differences between the two.
I compared the 1400 and 2400 side by side and could not tell the difference in sound. So spending an extra $200 for a couple of minor upgrades and 10 more watts per channel was not worth it to me. Just my opinion.

By the way I have had the 1400 for about a month and I am very pleased so far.

The two differences are (1) 110 x 7 v. 120 x 7 and (2) the 2400 is upgradable.

The question is whether the upgrade port will be used for format upgrades (i.e. if DTS comes out with DTS Neo 7) or whether it is only used for home theater control. Yamaha has never promised any format upgradability and the dolby pro logic IIx upgrade requires that the unit be sent into Yamaha in California which indicates to me that software upgrades will not any new formats.

Thus, I see little difference between the units.

Well, the 1400 is also upgradable. It just doesn't
have a port on the backside for it. It does have
a "hidden" port but you can't use it on your own
which is also the same with the 2400.

2400 additions/improvements over the 1400:

- 10 extra watts per channel X 7
- Adds an anodized heat sink and a fan
- 15,000 microfarad block capacitors as opposed to 10,000 microfarad in the 1400
- Adds an A/V record out/Zone 2 selector
- Adds an external RS232C interface
- Adds Zone 2 S-Video and composite outputs
- Adds 1 additional trigger output
- Different remote (Not sure whats different other than how it looks, maybe adds macro capability?)
- 2 extra surround sound programs (CHURCH,1 additional HALL)

I think that is the most of them.....

So if you don't need the Zone 2 capabilities and you're not using the receiver amps, the 1400 is likely the better buy.

If the RXV2300 could be had for $200 less than the RXV1400 which one would be the better choice? I'm looking at replacing my pre/pro with either one.

Does anybody know whether either of these new receivers have the memory bank features found on the RX-V1000, RX-V3200, and RXV-1?
