I have heard both systems. The CAST system is only available on KRELL FPB amps, and not the KAV series. Given that the FPB amps are enormously more powerful than KAV, and use a seriously over the top design, that should be the reason enough to go with FPB.
FPB amps come with CAST (current audio signal transmission) and voltage, so you can use both. KAV only has voltage. Cast allows for lossless transmission over long runs, so if that is a factor, use cast. In most short run situations I have found that a good Balanced XLR voltage cable has a less fatiguing sound than cast. (but these cables usually cost twice as much as the cast cable)
The new KAV amps are awsome, but a cast FPB 600 will destroy a KAV 2250 on a larger, difficult to drive speaker.
p.s. The 28cd is bested by the new Krell SACD player, even on regular PCM CDs, IMO. The KCT is awsome.
