Need advice please...

I recently purchased a new receiver for my living room,
a Sony STR-DE995, and I moved my Sony STR-DE925 to my
bedroom with a cerwin vega avs-5.1 speaker system for
surround sound. I also have a Sony dvd and vcr in my room,
but no cd player. I could just use my dvd player, but
prefer not to. I have a Sony shelf system in there that I
was using for a stereo before moving in my 925, which has
an optical output for cd's. My receiver has an optical
input. I was considering hooking the two up and seeing
if it would work, but don't want to risk damage to
either component. Does anyone know if this would work or
not? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes it will work, just plug them all in without the power on, and make sure that the channel you are on with your new receiver is getting audio from that optical port, I use my xbox and satellite box with optical.

Its what it is designed for.

have fun

Thanks for the reply Nick, but seeing that the source is from another receiver(the shelf system), and it has it's own
amplified output, will that overload my receiver? I know that a regular cd player with optical out would work fine, that's how my dvd player is hooked up. I'm just not sure that hooking these two together would be safe.
