Kyle- You need to understand what the "common" useage of 7.1 means.
Nothing.
There are no 7.1 formats. What most people mean by 7.1, is the speaker system on which you are playing material. DD/DTS are 5.1. DD EX/DTS-ES are 6.1, although DD EX is a matrix derived 6.1 format, whereas DTS-ES can be 6.1 discrete or matrix derived.
No 7.1. Although there are pre/pros that *create* a 7.1 soundfield out of 2.0 - 5.1, and 6.1 discs. The Rotel 1066 is one of them. So rest assured, the Pioneer will do everything you need it to.
