Can I get home theater audio for < $2000?

I am interested in buying the best 6.1 home theater speakers/receiver combination I can get for less than $2000. Can anyone help me?
I figure about $800 for the receiver and $1200 for 6 speakers and subwoofer.

Richard,

The more info you give in your posts, the better suggestions people can give you. I think you should put you interests (music/movies) room dimension, etc.

But with a $2000, I say JBL/HK/SVS is a very good choice. Try checking Studio and Nortbrige series. This is what I would buy

3 Pairs of S38s, $250x3 = $750
S center = $140
SVS 25-31 PCi $550
Harman Kardon 525 = $611
TOTAL = $2051

I would probably look more around $600 for the reciever. Like Pablo stated the 525 can be found for about $600 and it the 525 is better than other recievers in it's range.

As for speakers, this is where it is tricky. Everyone like a different sound, bright, warm, neutral, more bass? Personally I like Klipsch. They are a nice warmer/bright speaker but still maintain a nice other range of frequencies. I would just shop around as prices will fall into there place when you see what you want. Usually systems have "packages" that combine products like what you like to match your system selection.

I am going to use this for a 11'4" by 21'8" room that will be used primarily for DVD movie projection.
Thanks for your help.

I second Mike’s suggestion. The package comes in a $1,250 with a Denon 1804 receiver, four two-way satellites, a three-way center and 200 watt sub. With $2,000 you might check out what AV123 will charge for a 3800 model receiver instead of the 1804 and also what the surcharge would be to go with their UFW-10 subwoofer instead of the ELT sub.

Or you could bank the money.

In the interests of spending your money, another $1,000 would give you and absolute winner of a system from AV123.

Rocket 550/200/300, all with a Denon 3800 series receiver.
