Hello All, I have a Sony Seq-711 equalizer that has been in storage for the past four years. I currently have a STR-DA5ES running my HT. My question is should I get rid of it or is there a way to connect it and get some use out of it? This is what I have for a system.
TV: Sony KP-53V80 Rear Projector
SAT: Sony SAT-B55
Receiver: Sony STR-DA5ES
Amplifier: Sony TA-N9000ES (x2)
CD: Sony CDP-CX400
DVD: Sony DVP-S550D
MD: Sony MDS-JE500
Power Center: Monster Power HTS3500 & SW200
Speakers: Bose Acoustimass 16 (6.1 system)

Juan,

It used to be that equalizers were connected across tape monitor loops, since any input selected would travel through the tape loop.

However, few (if any) modern 5.1 receivers have tape monitor loops anymore. Therefore there are only two options for using an equalizer like this: Connect it between your CD player and receiver, to equalize music programming, or between the pre-amp and amplifiers. For a receiver this means between the pre-outputs and main-inputs (if it has them). If you wish to also equalize the center and rear channels, you will have to have additional equalizers connected between those pre-outs and main-ins.

I would suggest putting that EQ aside (maybe E-Bay or something?). The Sony ES receiver has a very powerful parametric equalizer if you need it. Especially since it can EQ each channel seperately. I would think if you put that outboard EQ in it would just add more noise (mantra: less is more).
