How long can a Coax cable be ?

What is classed as to long for a Coax cable from player to receiver ?

I ask because to get a decent picture from my projector i've had to move my player nearer to it, meaning further from my amp.

Thanks.

Anything under 100m or so will be fine - it just has to send a digital signal, and the attenuation will be very little. With the frequencies we are talking about (4MHz or so), the wire acts as a transmission line, and the interface between the RCA connectors will cause more of an impedance problem (RCAs are NOT 75 ohm by design) than the length of the cable will (Cable impedance at these frequencies is independent of length).

You should be fine with whatever you use. I'd definitely use Coax over optical for anything over 6m or so (Optical runs out of signal at around 10m through the plastic optics that most use).

Hope this helps!
