Denon 1600 vs 2900 Video Quality Difference

Hello All,

While I am on my quest for the "best" hardware for me, I am wondering what the "real" difference is between the above units. The 1600 uses the Faroudja chip and the 2900 uses the SiI504 chip. Would there be a major difference in PQ?

I own the 2900 but i used to own a 1600 and the video difference is very small with the 2900 getting a slight edge for a little more filmlike image. I think most people would be hard pressed to find much of a difference. BTW, i am using my 2900(and the 1600 previously) on a Panasonic 56" 16x9 set. On the audio side the 2900 is superior for regular DVD's and DVD-A. And of course the 2900 has SACD as well(excellent also). I know some others seem to have bass management problems with the 2900 but it works perfect for me.

It depends on the material you watch. The Faroudja handles video based/interlaced material better. Do a search on the 2900 here in HTF and you will find some more info on this.
