Denon 2803 vs. 3803

What's the real big difference, and is the price justifiable? Both seem like good "entry level" receivers even though the 3803 retails for $2250 here in canada and I can get it for $1100 CAD online WITH warrenty. But, like anybody else, if I can save a few hundred dollars by just going with the 2803 I will. What do you guys think? Thanks!

Argh, I'd like to know to.

I owned the 2802 and loved it, but I am hoping the 3803 will be a little ouder with the extra wattage.

There is quite a few online vendors that sell it for around $700 USD.

Do you guys know the main difference between the two models?

I think the main diff is the 3803 is the bottom of the top end and the 2803 is the top of the bottom end.This however is only my opinion,I do like my 3803,its just right my rf7's.

Curtis's thoughts are probably pretty close.

IMO, the 2803 is a "light" version of the 3803 (it does weigh almost 8 lbs less. ) It has many of the same features. The 3803 has a little more power (most will NOT see much of a volume difference since a 3db volume change requires the power to be doubled) and has better DACs and ADCs.

I have not heard a 2803 but I would expect it to be VERY similar to the 3803. I'd bet that many of us would have a very hard time telling the difference between the two.

Glad to help. I have just printed out the spec sheets yesterday so here is what the 3803 has in addition to 2803:

1. Pure Direct with AL24 processing - in lay terms, excitement for my grandfather's turntable, as this shuts off all digital circuitry and lets the amplitude modulation of analog phono flow smoothly and undistorted.

2. Better tranny with large capacitors, still no match for Riachard Gray's power co.

3. Audio Delay Function, when the speed of sound gets lost in A-D-A-D conversions.

4. Extra opti and coax inputs.

5. VIDEO SIGNAL UPCONVERSION, all the way to component, but this will be obsolete in 5-7 years, when the firewire, VGA connnections will become universal in HDTV. Kick my balls if i'm wrong, a la HTF)

6. Multizone video out.

Hope that i did not miss anything.

5) I agree, but so will most everything we know of now. In 5-7years it will be on hell of a backup receiver.
