kenwood 6070 pops is this normal?

is this normal? my friend told me that its probably normal because there may be a bit of lag because the digital volume control may lag if the sound volume is abruptly raised or lowered.

i want to know if this is normal for all 6070 recievers, or is my receiver faulty? should i exchange it?

Myo

I've had a 6070 for about 6 months. The only popping noise that I am aware of is when I turn down the volume from -82db to completely off -00. You mention "abruptly" raising or lowering the volume. Are you talking about using the remote or the dial on the face of the receiver?

If the noise really bothers you, (and it sounds like it does), either exchange it or get something different.

Also go to http://www.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/1/624.html

There are about 15 pages of posts there on the 6070.

yea i posted a thread there about it, but no one responded to my problem, arthur what speakers do you use with the system?
i got this reciever at best buy, and now its on clearance, i got it with an extended warranty and everything, and now that i finally got speakers for it, (mirage omni 60) i notice little pop and clicks if i abruptly move the vlume "knob" up and down quickly, i havent noticed this problem with the remote since the volume raises and lowers slowly.

the sound is really small, it sounds like small pop as if the recording was was bad but its made by the reciever.

id really hate to return this, i bought the onkyo set previously and had to return it because of the lfe channel was defective, and Circuit city really gave me a difficult time returning the thing, telling me nothing was wrong with there reciever and they didnt know what the heck i was talking about with the lfe channel missing.this was about a month ago before the bug was made widely public, needless to say after a big discouraging shopping experience with CC i decided to get a refund and buy a seperate reciever elsewhere

so i ended up buying a different reciever at Best buy, but now it this one clicks arrrrrrgh.. will my torment ever end, im so sad, best buy discontinued this model, and id hate to return a reciever all over again at another store, the CC expereience really left a bad taste in my mouth.

i just hope this reciever does not kill my omni speakers the bookshelfs cost more then the reciever. arthur try it out, and listen to your reciever very closely, if you want just turn the knob fairly quickly, when i do that, it clicks after like 3 turns, but the clicks are small and can be easily unnoticed,

this on the other hand bothers me a lot since my ears are very sensitive and the speakers i use have a pretty good effiency/sensitvity so those clicks are glaringly apparent everytime it happens.

i went to my friends house and he has the onkyo 500 reciever and the onkyp 650 speakers, and we did the same thing, on his reciever, his reciever makes the noise too, but you really have to listen for it, and its not noticeable unless you listend for it, because the 650 speakers have a really limited frequency range, and incredibly low sensitivity.

arthur what kind of speakers are you using with the 6070?

i just tested it with my remote and it pops the same it only pops when the numbers start moving fast and with each decible change theres a pop it sounds like cracking fire.

:::sigh:::

EDIT

i have a hankering suspiscion that this is a side effect of digital amplification, i did a test on my pc speakers.

i opened my volume control and played some music, then i began to move the column rapidly up and down, and i get the same pops, for any of you that want to hear what im talking about, try it out on your pc digital volume control, not analog, and you should hear that pops too.

thats basically what im getting on my kenwood, but i dont have to move the knob as fast as the pc to hear the defection.

this makes me think its normal for all digital recievers, and since this is a low current reciever, it probably is more apparent.
i think you wont notice it unless you have sensitve speakers and an alert ear,

my ear is pretty strange, i pick up over tones and under tones and hear background noise all the time in speakers and recordings. so something like this annoys me to no end. what may sound like a small static pop sounds comparitvely like a walking t rex to me, i get really picky with a lot of things. especially when it regards audio.
