Sokurov is the most important and internationally recognized modern Russian filmmaker. His films are often dreamlike, concerned with time, emotional truths, and states of being, not unlike his predecessor, Andrei Tarkovsky.
1. Mother and Son - A (Beautifully filmed in a lush, misty landscape, the film explores the emotional bonds and conflicts between mothers and sons)
2. Russian Ark - A (Famous for its single, unbroken shot, this film explores Russian history and an art museum's purpose as a repository and preserver of man's achievements.)
3. Father and Son - B+ (A more straightforward film than Mother and Son (it even has subplots!), this film uses an urban setting to examine the conflicts and stresses inherent in the father/son relationship.)
Own: 0 (The Mother and Son DVD isn't very good, don't know why I haven't bought Russian Ark)
Would like to see more of his work, but other than Moloch, it isn't readily available.

Have only seen "Father and Son" thus far which I wasn't too crazy about. Have "Russian Ark" in my "to watch" pile.
