"Godfather of gore". Purveyor of drive-in nudie flicks and "nature" films. Maker of gang and other teensploitation fare. He's no Jack Hill , but his place in the cult canon is secure.

1. Two Thousand Maniacs - A- (Gordon's best and most humorous film, about a Southern town who lures unsuspecting Yanks to their doom as revenge for the Civil War)
2. Blood Feast - B+ (Known as the gore film that started it all. It's certainly gory and amusing on the "no budget" level)
3. Bloodfeast 2: All U Can Eat - B (Gordon translates his "style" to the 21st century in a fairly successful manner. Exceeded by very low expectations)
4. Color Me Blood Red - C (Actually uses a C-list "name" actor or two here, but the story is tired and this one isn't much fun)
5. The Gore Gore Girls - F (Even the presence of Henny Youngman can't enliven this dreadfully boring, exceedingly awful movie about a killer terrorizing the local go-go bar, or something)

I've seen none.
"Godfather of gore".
Those films hold no interest for me.
Purveyor of drive-in nudie flicks
Those actually sound interesting. I'm sure they're bad films, but if you have to watch a bad film, much better one that has something you like to look at (naked girls) than something you hate to look at (gore).

A rather strange director choice from you considering your disparaging comments on Jack Arnold.

You disparaged first with your Jack Hill comments. I love Creature, I just don't see Arnold bringing much to the table directorially. However, I haven't seen the other movies that you and George praised so I haven't continued to harp on it. It was more that he was an easy target and I was feeling defensive rather than any truly negative feelings toward Arnold. I haven't seen enough of his films to know, just like most of you haven't seen Hill's best work.

Plus, I like gory horror movies, even ones in English. And living in the South I do get a big kick out of Two Thousand Maniacs. If only it had been made 10 years later and Lewis could have afforded Freebird for the soundtrack, it would be just about perfect.

The other available H.G. Lewis DVDs are currently on page 2 of my 1707 DVD title Zip list.

I once thought that I'd watch all the available discs, but seeing The Gore Gore Girls rid me of that notion. Maybe someday I'll go back and watch some more, but it will be awhile.

If you do rent the DVD's though, I highly recommend listening to the commentary tracks. They are an interesting history lesson on drive-in/cult movie-making and distribution in the 60's.

Stuff like Nature's Playmates and Daughter's of the Sun, from what I gather, are little more than home movies shot at nudist clubs. You could get around censorship by selling it along documentary lines.

Quote:
I believe I caught Monster A Go-Go on MST3K. Possibly even more inept than Plan 9, if you can believe it.

I believe it. For the most part, Lewis' production values could definitely be described as Ed Woodesque. Blood Feast 2 is better made, it's more along the lines of any Sundance cheapie.

This thread cracks me up. What a choice. Turns out, as far as I can tell, I've never seen an H.G. Lewis film, but now that he's in my mind, I want to. Can anyone suggest one that is especially offensive, and with lots of gratuitous nudity?
