The Return of the Return of the Director's Checklists - #506 - MAURICE PIALAT

Considered one of the masters of French cinema and praised for his earthy realism that is quite different stylistically from the New Wave group. He acted in a number of his films and had a reputation as cruel and domineering to actors, yet still attracted many of the top stars like Gerard Depardieu and introduced the world to Sandrine Bonnaire. The relative unavailability of his films has probably kept him from being better known here.
