What are your favorite Disney animated films?

With all the buzz over the Snow White DVD, I thought it would be an appropriate time to post a poll on this.

Feel free to post your top 10, top 5 or just your favorite. But remember that this poll is about the 40 (41 if you count the infamous Song of the South) animated films done by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released theatrically. The works of other divisions of the Disney studio (the Pixar films, the straight-to-video sequels, the films based on animated series like Goof Troop, Doug and Recess, etc.) do not count in this case.

Here's my current top 10:

1. Beauty and the Beast
2. The Lion King
3. Fantasia
4. Pinocchio
5. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
6. The Little Mermaid
7. Bambi
8. Aladdin
9. Tarzan
10. The Jungle Book

I am definitely a fan of the recent stuff, as I have not seen a lot of the older stuff...

1) The Hunchback of Notre Dame
2) Beauty and the Beast
3) Aladdin

I rarely see anyone like my Number 1, but it is my favorite.

An interesting question...see any similiarities?

Little Mermaid (1) = Pocahontas (5)
Beauty and the Beast (2) = Hunchback of Notre Dame (6)
Aladdin (3) = Hercules (7)
Lion King (4) = Tarzan (8)

I've always wondered if Disney had 4-year development cycles for their movies?

Just curious

Take care,
Chuck

Dumbo and Pinocchio top my list. As for ranking the rest, it's been a while, so I'd have to see them again.

A while back I did a Disney films tournament here. Interestingly, nobody has yet mentioned the eventual winner of that tourney as one of their favourites--Sleeping Beauty. I always knew that result was bogus.

I was thinking the same thing. I read these first few posts and was absolutely shocked that no one picked Sleeping Beauty, which I think is head and shoulders above any other Disney cartoon. A fairly distant second is Cinderella, which also has not been mentioned. Those are the only two that I'm really wild about.

I guess I'm out of step with the Disney crowd.

I think Hunchback is the most underrated of all the Disney films. The only reason it's not in my top 10 is because the gargoyles go over-the-top a few too many times.

As for Sleeping Beauty... it is one of the most beautifully animated of the Disney films, but the story pales compared to the similar Snow White. I still like the film a lot, though, especially the climactic fight with Maleficent and the "Once Upon a Dream" sequence.
