Re: A Better (Blank) By (Blank) Is...
Technically, those films aren't linked by anything other than plot elements - but that's OK I guess.
I preferred Tim Curry in many roles, especially The Lord of Darkness in Legend.

Legend was great, but David Bennent was stunning in The Tin Drum

But I think that Maurice Jarre wrote a better score for Lawrence of Arabia

Re: A Better (Blank) By (Blank) Is...
As much as I admire Lawrence of Arabia, I prefer Lean's earlier, more intimate films, most notably Brief Encounter.
(Why do I get the feeling that Brad's avatar is mocking me in his last post? (J/K) )
(And thanks for the nice comments, Lew)

Fidelity to the source should always be the goal for Blu-ray releases.

Re: A Better (Blank) By (Blank) Is...
I'm not familiar with Brief Encounter, but every time I actually remember who Trevor Howard is it's because of his role as Captain Bligh in Mutiny on the Bounty (1962).

Richard Haydn was much better in The Sound of Music

Re: A Better (Blank) By (Blank) Is...
As tempted as I am to point out the Julie Andrews was better on the stage as Eliza, I’ll only observe that by the time this musical hit the screen, Rodgers & Hammerstein had lost some of their bite.
Their breakthrough musical was Oklahoma!

I preferred Gloria Grahame in noir films such as the outstanding The Big Heat.

Gloria Grahame is great in The Big Heat, but I think even better in It's a Wonderful Life.
