Re: VISIONS OF LIGHT tourney!
Citizen Kane advances to the final round without breaking a sweat but awaits a heavyweight bout against a 65mm behemoth
Conformist and 2001 advance
FINAL FOUR
ROUND 5, MATCH 2
2001: A Space Odyssey ----------------------------- vs ----------------------------- Lawrence of Arabia
DP Geoffrey Unsworth --------------------------------------------- DP Freddy Young

equally good would be shots comparing these two films famous sunrises, but I love this comparison top to bottom and side by side, see my soon to be updated sig.

Re: VISIONS OF LIGHT tourney!
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
2001: A Space Odyssey is genius, but by about halfway through the film I always resign myself to the fact that the lighting in those damned spaceships is never, ever going to change. It's a very close match, though.
Lawrence gets my vote because it covers a lot of ground, photographically, and never seems to strain for lighting ideas.
In terms of motion and composition, both films are perfection and I couldn't choose between them. Lighting is what tips the scales.
