Last year I ran a comedy march madness movie tourney that I found on MSN.
This year I decided to do my own, but using HTF selected films.. So the top 16 films from 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001 along with their respective point totals (all taken from the top ten , 'thrown down' lists) put into a spread sheet and sorted by total, the top four point earners were the first seed, one in each bracket, each seed was broken down by the the next four, so the 16th seed would be 61st, 62nd, 63rd, and 64th in point totals.
THe only thing was for 2001, I could only find a list with the top fifteen films listed, so I took the seventeenth film with the highest point total, which was the 25th hour.
These are the films I'm using:
Quote:
2001
Memento
FOTR
Moulin Rouge
A.I.
Amelie
Muhullond Dr.
Royal Tennenbaums
Black Hawk Down
In the Bedroom
Ghost World

Shrek
Monsters Inc.
2002
Two Towers
Minority Report
Punch-Drunk Love

Gangs of New York
Sen to Chihiro no kamikakusi (Spirited Away)

Cidade de Deus
Mystic River
Master and Commander
21 Grams
Last Samurai
American Splendor

I'll run four a day to get through the first round, and then two a day for the second round, and then one a day for the remaining rounds.
I'll recuse myself from voting, unless there's a tie.

Some relatively tough choices here as I found every one of these films to be disappointing in some way with a few I outright dislike.
Return of the King
The Two Towers
Memento (though each of these 3 is the better film in each matchup, I'm still reluctant to vote for them because it is inevitable they'll be knocking off films I think highly of in the future. It wouldn't surprise me if all 3 of these made the final 4.)
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (more of a reflection of my dislike for Eternal Sunshine than any great affection for Zissou)

All four frontrunners win, I imagine George would have been the lone vote for Monsters Inc, which I would also choose over Memento.
Next up:
Road to Perdition
vs.
In the Bedroom
Mystic River
vs.
Master and Commander
Aviator
vs.
21 Grams
Before Sunset
vs.
Ghost World

Would have voted for:
ROTK and Monsters Inc.
Haven't seen Closer or Eternal Sunshine yet. Two Towers, Memento, and The Life Aquatic are all very good and Matrix: Reloaded was disappointing.
This round, I'll take Before Sunset (a coin flip) in the only match-up where I've seen both films.

I tried to vote last night, but couldn't get on, and by the time I logged in this morning it was too late. Adam is right, I would have voted for Monsters Inc., though I think Memento is a great film, and am not unhappy to see it advance.
