I'm a fan of Winterbottom, he slipped my mind.

1. The Claim - A- (There were some problems in the story structure, but I loved the scale of the production, the sets, the ambition of what it tried to do, and of course having Sarah Polley doesn't hurt either. Glad I was able to see in in a theater, this is a film that needs a big screen)
2. Tristram Shandy: A Cock & Bull Story - B+
3. Wonderland - B+ (Solidly acted, multi-character, multi-story drama_
4. In This World - B+ (moving film about the travails people are willing to go through in hopes of a better life.)
5. A Mighty Heart - B
6. Code 46 - B- (interesting concept and sci-fi world, bad decision to cast Tim Robbins as a romantic lead. Samantha Morton acts circles around him)
7. 9 Songs - C+
8. 24 Hour Party People - C (film about the early development of the British New Wave and bands like Joy Division, something I thought I would really like, but didn't really)

Check out The Claim George. It's set in an old west mining town. Peter Mullan plays the man who controls the town and its gold mine. His past comes back to haunt him when a railroad surveying team comes to town. Based on Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge.

A Cock and Bull Story (2005)
9 Songs (2004)

Code 46 (2003) 1/2 - One of the best examples of "Hard" Sci-Fi to come along in years. Also one of the best examples of Cyber-Punk ever put on film. I understand Brook's comments about Robbins, who I am not exactly a fan of, but I also can see it as an irony, since he plays an empathic person. Maybe he is not the least bit empathic, but it's just the virus. Cool stuff. Own the DVD.

In This World (2002)
24 Hour Party People (2002)
... aka 24 Hour Party People (France)
... aka Twenty Four Hour Party People (UK: DVD title)
The Claim (2000)
... aka Maître de Kingdom Come, Le (Canada: French title)
... aka Rédemption (France)
With or Without You (1999)
Wonderland (1999)
I Want You (1998/I)
... aka Beloved
Welcome to Sarajevo (1997)

Jude (1996) 1/2 - One of the most viciously depressing stories I have ever seen. Still, I went out and picked up a used copy of the novel. Good cast, plus it does have its, um, moments. Too bad the DVD is OOP. Own the DVD.

"Cinema Europe: The Other Hollywood" (1996) (mini) TV Series
Go Now (1995)
Butterfly Kiss (1995)
... aka Killer on the Road
Family (1994/I) (TV)
"Cracker" (1993) TV Series (episode "The Mad Woman in the Attic (1993")
Love Lies Bleeding (1993) (TV)
Under the Sun (1992)
"Time Riders" (1991) TV Series
"Alleyn Mysteries" (1990) TV Series (episode "Death at the Bar")
... aka Inspector Alleyn
... aka Ngaio Marsh's Alleyn Mysteries (UK: complete title)
Forget About Me (1990)
Rosie the Great (1989) (TV)
"Boon" (1986) TV Series
"Dramarama" (1983) TV Series

I will be seeking out some more Winterbottom titles.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.
