http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7053845/

They've taken comedy and broken it into four 'regional' categories: Broad (grossout, general, etc), SNL Cast Member (excluding cameos and 1983season), Smart (appeals to specific tastes) and Classics (25+ years old).

Each 'region' has 16 films seeded in eight brackets. I'll post two from each of the four brackets a day for then one from each bracket per day for the second round and the sweet sixteen.

MSNBC has a contest up trying to guess what they picked as winning the whole tournement, but I think it's more interesting to just vote which one you think of as the better comedy.

----
After the fourth bracket closed, these are the results:

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Airplane
American Pie
Animal House
Annie Hall
Arsenic and Old Lace
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
Best in Show
Beverly Hills Cop
Big Lebowski
Blazing Saddles
Blues Brothers
Bowfinger
Broadcast News
Bull Durham
Caddyshack
Christmas Story
Dazed and Confused
Diner

Fletch
Friday

Graduate

Happy Gilmore
High Fidelity
His Girl Friday
Jerk
Lost in America
Meet the Parents
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Naked Gun
Nine to Five
Office Space
Old School
Philadelphia Story
Princess Bride
Producers

Raising Arizona
Rushmore
Shaun of the Dead
Slapshot
Some Like it Hot

First one is the toughest choice, but I've only seen Shaun once so I have no idea how well it holds up.

Dumb and Dumber
Naked Gun
:b (I've never seen The Blues Brothers)
Animal House
Diner (I don't really like either of these)
Fast Times
Arsenic and Old Lace
:b (I've never seen Slapshot)
