Favorite unexpectedly touching moment in a comedy...

We all love film comedies, whether they be intelligent or stupid. The question today is, what are some of your favorite unexpedtedly touching moments in a comedy?

2 of my favorites:

"Pee-Wee's Big Adventure"

Spoiler:
When Pee-Wee and Simone are talking about their dreams while watching the sun rise. Yeah, there are some double entendres, but the moment is poignant, at least to me.

"UHF"

Spoiler:
When George Newman hands Stanley Spadowski a trophy at the end of the movie...Also, the "Gone With The Wind" spoof at the end struck me as touching.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

I suppose it's a matter of personal taste.

Two scenes from Harvey come to mind -

Spoiler:

- The scene in the alley behind the bar where Elwood is discussing his experiences with Harvey to Dr. Sanderson and Miss Kelly.
- The finale when Elwood says to Harvey "... I prefer you to."

Also from Mister Roberts -

Spoiler:

Ensign Pulver reading the letter to the crew from Roberts at the film's finale. Never fails to choke me up.

Yep.

I'll take one from a television show in the Simpsons. After the hippy talks to Homer's mother (which was pretty funny the way he talks), and after Homer's mother says goodbye, we see Homer sit on the trunk of his car. You expect something funny to happen, but it doesn't. Instead, you see Homer staring at the starry sky longing for his mother.

If musical comedies count, I'd like to mention:

"Little Shop Of Horrors"

To be specific, the musical numbers "Skid Row (Downtown)", "Somewhere That's Green" and "Suddenly, Seymour". In most musical comedies, you wouldn't expect the songs to be poignant. Here, though, they definitely are.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

The songs sound even more poignant in French. Why weren't they dubbed into Spanish, though?

And then when I feel so stuffed I can't eat anymore, I just use the restroom! And then I CAN eat more!

Ooh, I'm glad nobody mentioned this one yet, because A) it's the perfect example of what you're asking for (great question, btw) and B) everyone reading this thread will probably agree with me wholeheartedly.

Spoiler:
Steve Martin's maniacal glee when his son catches the softball in Parenthood. Out of NOWHERE, I was all misty-eyed. A great moment in a very good comedy.

I like the DeNiro/Grodin exchange at the end of Midnight Run.

The scene in the Replacements where...
Spoiler:
The team get in a bar fight, are taken off to jail and break out in a coarse of I will Survive.

I don't know why but that always gets to me. I love it when teams come together.
