Today's the day I finally get to hear an SVS for the first time if everything goes as planned. George has invited me over for a demo. Pretty excited as I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm pretty sure I'll be happy.

Justin,

Go to LaMarcus' to check out his SVS. His whole set-up is great. You won't be disappointed. Unless of course you like crappy systems, then you might not like it since it isn't crappy.

George

Ferdinand,

You coming over or what? If you do, we can't turn the volume up too loud because my dogs are probably going to take a nap about the time you supposed to be here. You might still get the idea though.

George

P.S. I still can't believe you live about 1 mile, er, two minutes away from my house.

HOLY$%@!

I just got back from George's place about three hours ago and I'm speechless! George is a great guy and a great host, again thanks for having me over. For those who haven't heard George's theater, it sounds great and to think he's not even finished! Can't imagine what it would sound like once he's all done. I set a budget for around $2000 to invest in a tv but after coming from George's place he's got me thinking about a projector for my setup instead of a RPTV. George has an InFocus X1 projector with screen. I forgot the size already but it was big and it looked great. I have the room for one and a perfect wall to mount the screen too. So I definitely plan on researching this over the months to come. I can't even imagine playing Halo deathmatch on this thing, it would be an experience. I also felt bass shakers for the first time too and I loved them. I plan on getting some of these when I get some new seats. Just to let everyone know they were off except for when he showed them to me.

Now onto the SVS! First few words that come to mind after listening to an SVS is wow, amazing, unbelievable, jaw dropping! I mean my experience with it was that good! I now want my SVS even more than ever before and I can't believe I have to wait two more long weeks to place my order. It will be well worth it though.

First thing I noticed like everyone has mentioned is that its bigger than I thought it would be, but it was beautiful. I can't see why some try to hide it and why wives hate them. While I was reading about SVS subs and other great subs in general I learned that great subs work when needed. Unlike cheap subs that work any little chance they get thus is why they sound boomy, and also to make up for not being able to hit low.

So I expected this to be the case before I heard the SVS and after hearing it I was reassured. I mean it worked when it was suppose to and it did it while going low and shaking me in the process in some scenes. Even though we were sitting on top of a slab of concrete as if the theater was in a basement. This says alot for a sub when it can have this effect.

First thing George popped in was a demo disc which had a whole bunch of THX, DTS, and I think Dolby Digital intro's too. It also had the pod race scene from Star Wars in DTS and this was the first thing he showed me. Boy was I blown away!, I mean I had a smile from ear to ear and I could not believe what I was hearing. I've seen this scene quit a few time with older setups of my own and I've heard bass that I've never heard before. Second thing I noticed is like I said earlier is that the bass was there when it was needed and was clean and tight at the same time. Unlike my current sub where it plays pretty much thru the whole thing.

He than showed my some THX demo's and I saw a George Lucas preview that had clips of Indiana Jones and the original Star Wars trilogy. Towards the end they had these explosions going on that could be felt to the point where I got goose bumps from it.

After that it was on to the drag race scene in The Fast and the Furious. Hehe, man another great sounding demo and to finish it off a freeway crash scene from Final Destination 2. This was just as good as the pod race demo. Definitely good showoff material. I have to get this DVD now just from viewing that one scene.

In closing the SVS blew my expectations out of the water and I can't wait till I get mine. On top of that I got to meet George who was a good sport for inviting to his home and a great guy at that. Now that George and I live so close I hope we can invite each other over to watch a movie every once and awhile. A mini meet you can say. Seriously though he lives two blocks away, I could walk to his house and be there in less than five minutes thats how close we live to each other.

Wow, it must be great to have someone live so close to you that is into hometheater (hint hint Justin). Only thing Ferdinand, that demo disc you mentioned we all seen it already at my house so we pretty much already know the play by play

I can't believe this thread is 7 pages long now, wow. Oh and I have bad news. The new towers that I was buying, the stupid military was selling them for $299 a piece!!! You can get them online for $370 (pair) so I guess I'll have to go that route instead.

LaMarcus,

$800 toilet seat. Do you think you'd get a good deal on a speaker?

Glad to see George and Ferdinand get together. I'm glad that I got them introduced!! So, you liked the SVS Ferdinand??

I drove up to Columbus yesterday afternoon and picked up my new Rotel 2 x 200wpc amp. I will be driving my Monitor 7's with it and my CC-350 and 4 Mini Monitors with my Carver 5 x 125wpc amp. I can't wait to hear 2 channel sound with that Rotel!!

My next upgrade will be a remodeled HT room and a FP and screen. I still can't decide how to configure my room. Do I split it up so that the Elite RPTV is on one side and the FP and wall mounted screen is in the bigger area (11' x 24') or just bring that one wall out 5' to make one big room (15' x 24') with a screen that would come down in front of the RPTV. The stupid support poles that have bugged me in this room would then be off center in the bigger room. The poles would be "in" the wall if I do the split. One determining factor is that I really like the sound of my audio system in the bigger area, and I am not sure how it would sound in the smaller area. I do listen to 2 channel music alot. I will probably add a SVS at some point!!

For those of you that have been here and seen my room.....help me figure this out!!

LaMarcus, I think we'll have to have "mini-meet" of our own soon. I'd love to see your setup.

Alan, I'd have to see your room again to be able to offer any suggestions. Maybe we could arrange something or if you happened to host the next gathering, we could all chime in.

Thanks for the review, Ferdinand. I'm more anxious that ever to hear a vaunted SVS sub.

George,

I went to Audio Visions today and they are continuing to remodel. Nothing major but it looks nice. I saw the wall mounted Martin Logans for the rears you were talking about. They looked really cool, bigger than what I was expecting but not big by any means. You would probably have to mount them on the side walls for sure.

I had to get some speaker stands for the mains to make room for the sub up front like your setup. Before I had cabinets on each side of the tv stand and I had the mains inside those. It looked really nice but it took up too much room. So I had no choice but to put the sub on the side wall. Now my overall sound has improved because I'm now able to position the speaker further apart all around. Plus having the sub up front helps too.

Alan:

I'm leaving my new room open even though one side will be primarily used for the new FP TV.

I thought you got greatsound in the large room you are in even though the seating positions were spread out.

The only thing I worry about in this approach is odd sub woofer nulls or enhancements in the sound. My new HT will be slightly off balance with the viewing part 13 ft by 25 feet and the open part 12 by 18 feet or so.

I have a lot of experimenting to do and I don't think I'll get it right the first time but it would be easy to add a wall later or a partial wall.

You ought to come over and offer suggestion on mine and we could go to your place and brainstorm.
