Pink Floyd's Richard Wright dies
Sad day for us Pink Floyd fans. Richard Wright of Pink Floyd has passed away.
I'm glad they played together one last time a couple of years ago though.

I'm gald they were able to put their differences aside for one final performance together. PF (1982) isn't Floyd without Waters, Waters alone isn't Floyd, and Floyd isn't Floyd without Wright. (No slagging on Syd either)
He's prophetically gone to The Great Gig In The Sky. Godspeed.

Oh no, very sad news indeed. I had just watched the David Gilmour DVD the other night and thought how great they both sounded, especially on "Echoes".

Very sad. Some of these guys get overshadowed with the Gilmore/Waters stuff, but they were just as integral and a creative force to what made Floyd great.

I was really really hoping that somehow I would get to see Gilmour and Wright do Echos live sometime, but now that is gone. A very sad day indeed for us Pink Floyd fans.

This is acknowledged on David Gilmour's website today with the following touching tribute to Rick....

In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten.
He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound.
I have never played with anyone quite like him. The blend of his and my voices and our musical telepathy reached their first major flowering in 1971 on 'Echoes'. In my view all the greatest PF moments are the ones where he is in full flow. After all, without 'Us and Them' and 'The Great Gig In The Sky', both of which he wrote, what would 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' have been? Without his quiet touch the Album 'Wish You Were Here' would not quite have worked.
In our middle years, for many reasons he lost his way for a while, but in the early Nineties, with 'The Division Bell', his vitality, spark and humour returned to him and then the audience reaction to his appearances on my tour in 2006 was hugely uplifting and it's a mark of his modesty that those standing ovations came as a huge surprise to him, (though not to the rest of us).
Like Rick, I don't find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously.

I am deeply saddened by this news......he was a truly talented musician. With his death, any distant hope for one more Pink Floyd reunion is gone.

Wow, this is very surprising to me. I wish him peace.
I got into Pink Floyd in 1969. And in 1973, I was blown away by Dark Side Of the Moon. I own just about all of their albums, and recently ordered their catalog for my place of employment.
I also had their posters from Dark Side Of the Moon on my bedroom wall all through High School. They were (and still are) an inspiration to me musically.

Sad news.
Even though Waters and Gilmour received most of the attention in Pink Floyd, Wright's keyboard and piano work was just as intregal as Waters' lyrical talent and Gilmour's guitar. Sadly, since Wright was more active as a writer and vocalist in the Pre-DSOTM days, some great material of his, such as "Julia Dream", "Remember a Day", "See Saw", "Stay" etc. is largely unknown to non-hardcore fans.
His main contribution to "The Division Bell", "Wearing the Inside Out" was one of the highlights of the somewhat flawed album.

Agreed. I count Remember A Day and Arnold Layne among my most favorite tunes ever recorded by them.
