Now a Complete Brahms from the same company

Just a heads-up.

On the German Amazon, there's a Complete Brahms 60 CD box set from Brilliant Classics, the company that also produced the Bach, Mozart and Beethoven Complete Works box set.

Price is roughly $100 (that's because the $ isn't doing to well against the € yet, it's €69.95).

I'm thinking about this one, not all info seems to be present, but if you're a Brahms lover, you must realize that the previous sets were of a very high quality.

Only disadvantage: you're bound to get behind on the listening. But the price is always a steal comparing to even buying a small fraction of the works on discrete CDs.

Cees,

Don't forget that CD pricing doesn't make any sense. The Sony Beethoven box was released at something like Euro 36 but at first in the US at $25. Maybe Amazon US will screw up again.

EDIT Maybe not. Amazon.com: BRAHMS: Edition - Complete Works: J. Brahms: Music The US release will be mid-May at $107 (Amazon price).

Yes, it's the same set.

CD prices are still fancy indeed. You could buy no more than six or seven CDs for that amount in the old days.
That $107 is exactly (or extremely close to) the $ -> Euro conversion rate.

Re: Now a Complete Brahms from the same company

Well I don't recognize many of the artists in this set except, of course, for cellist Janos Starker who plays in the Double Concerto. Good heavens, he's 84 years old now....I wonder when he made this recording? Sawallisch and Boult are long gone IIRC. The Neeme Järvi version of the Hungarian dances should be very good.

Re: Now a Complete Brahms from the same company

This looks to be an interesting and (from a performer standpoint) eclectic collection. I own the complete works already (albeit not this set).

I have sung some of the works (Ein deutsches Requiem and Schicksalslied) listed here, and have played many of the piano works over the years. The price is IMO quite good for those whom are looking to bolster their collections. I would love to hear an excerpt of a couple of the symphonies, the Sextets, and the Rhapsodies before purchasing.
