Eddy Arnold died

Country music superstar Eddy Arnold dies at 89 - Yahoo! News

Got a couple of his albums on my iPod. I keep thinking, "I ought to try to meet these old guys before it's too late," and it always is. Martin Denny, Sheb Wooley and now Eddy.

Re: Eddy Arnold died

My dad is a huge fan and I learned of Eddy at a very early age - truly an awesome artist and a big loss. RIP Eddy.

BTW - great youtube choice....

Re: Eddy Arnold died

Seemed like a really fine man. Married to Sally (who died in March) for 66 years. Very successful recording artist over the span of 5 decades.
Member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Raised on a farm in Tennesee.
Actually yodeled on a version (not the hit version) of "Cattle Call".

But, after all, a pop singer, not country.

Re: Eddy Arnold died

I've been a fan of Mr. Arnold's for a long time. He was a tremendous singer and stylist whose recordings from 60 years ago are still very listenable as are his recent releases.

He also managed to have a nearly 70 year career and marriage with nary a scandal and even in interviews conducted in the last year or so still showed absolutely no sign of being on a "star trip".

My favorites of his are "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye", "Turn the World Around", and of course "Cattle Call". In fact his last chart apparance (which extended his chart career into the 21st century) was on a duet of Cattle Call with Leann Rimes.

RIP.
